How to read it

Power is one of the sectors Climate TRACE models at the level of individual facilities, so the plants on

the map are real located assets rather than downscaled area averages. Emissions are attributed to where

the electricity is generated, not where it is used — an area that exports power carries those emissions,

and one that imports it does not.

About this indicator

Reports the greenhouse gases emitted within an area, broken down by sector, using the Climate TRACE

inventory. Climate TRACE combines satellite observations, reported data and sector-specific models to

estimate emissions worldwide — including for places that publish no inventory of their own.

How to read it

Figures are modelled estimates, not meter readings, and are attributed to where emissions are produced

rather than where the energy or goods are consumed. Sub-national data begins in 2021. Because many

sub-national figures are downscaled from national totals, they are most useful for comparing the shape of

an area's emissions (which sectors dominate) rather than for auditing an exact tonnage.
